Eurovision – 2nd Semi-Final Results

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Last night the 2nd semi-final in this years Eurovision Song Contest took place in the Russin capital Moscow. 19 songs performed in this semi-final with the top 10 advancing through to Saturday’s live final. The contest opened with a band of 4 musicians with Russian stringed instruments playing some of the most famous songs in Eurovision history. They included Dana International’s “Diva” and last years winning songs “Believe” by Dimar Bilan. The 2 presenters were, as usual, so over-the-top it was funny just to watch them. The 2 favourites, Norway & Greece qualified but had to wait until the end before the result was announced. I’m a bit disappointed that Ireland & Cyprus didn’t qualify but am ecstatic that Denmark did. And why on earth did Croatia, Lithuania & Moldova qualify? It’s typical Eurovision Block-Voting lol. Here is who qualified in the order the countries were announced.

Azerbaijan
Croatia
Ukraine
Lithuania
Albania
Moldova
Denmark
Estonia
Norway
Greece

After the semi-final finished a draw took place to determine which position the 10 new finalist would perform in the live final and they are as follows:

Azerbaijan will sing 11th
Croatia will sing 5th
Ukraine will sing 21st
Lithuania will sing 1st
Albania will sing 19th
Moldova will sing 13th
Denmark will sing 16th
Estonia will sing 15th
Norway will sing 20th
Greece will sing 8th

So all 25 countries, who will sing in the 54th Eurovision Song Contest final have been announced. In my next post I will put the full running order.

Good Luck to Jade Ewen who is singing the UK’s entry “It’s My Time”. I’m sure you will do exceptionally well xx

Eurovision – 1st Semi-Final Results

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Last night saw the 1st 18 songs of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest take to the stage to perform in the hope that they would be voted for to appears in Saturday’s final. The show began with a fairytale and it was something to do with a tree, a horse, a dragon and the Fire Bird which is this years theme. When all of this had finally finished the show got off to a start. There were no surprises of which countries will qualify, all the Scandinavian songs went through although there were a couple of my favourite songs which didn’t make it and bad luck to Switzerland and F.Y.R. Macedonia. Both songs worthy of reaching the final but fell at the final hurdle.

The 10 songs which made it through are below (in the order they were announced):

Turkey
Sweden
Israel
Portugal
Malta
Finland
Bosnia & Herzegovina
Romania
Armenia
Iceland

And today, the council for the Eurovision Song Contest held a draw to determine which position the countries who qualified for the final will perform, and they are as follow:

Turkey will sing 18th
Sweden will sing 4th
Israel will sing 2nd
Portugal will sing 6th
Malta will sing 14th
Finland will sing 24th
Bosnia & Herzegovina will sing 12th
Romania will sing 22nd
Armenia will sing 9th
Iceland will sing 7th

So all eyes will be on Moscow again tomorrow for the 2nd semi-final where the 2 favourite songs to take this year’s crown will do battle on the stage. Hmmm I wonder whether there will be any surprises that make it through? Me thinks not.

2009 Eurovision Song Contest – 1st Semi-Final

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Well it’s that time of year again where all of Europe (and other parts of the world) get together to celebrate all things musical. Yes it’s the start of Eurovision Week and tomorrow (12th May 2009) will see the first 18 songs performed in the 1st semi final. previous posts show what the running order of both semi finals will be but I wanted to name the artist and song for each country for the semi finals, and then then grand final on Saturday.

As I said in an earlier post, 18 countries will perform in the 1st semi final and they are (in running order)

01) – Montenegro – Andrea Demirovic with the song “Just Get Out Of My Life”
02) – Czech Republic – Gypsy.cz and their song “Aven Romale”
03) – Belguim – Copycat and his song “Copycat”
04) – Belarus – Petr Elfimov and his song “Eyes That Never Lie”
05) – Sweden – Malena Ernman and her pop/opera song “La Voix”
06) – Armenia – Inga & Anush and their song “Jan Jan”
07) – Andorra – Suzanne Georgi and her song “La Teva Decisio (Get A Life)”
08) – Switzerland – Lovebugs and their ballad “The Heighest Heights”
09) – Turkey – Hadise sings “Dum Tek Tek”
10) – Israel – Nora & Mira Awad sing “There Must Be Another Way”
11) – Bulgaria – Krassimir Avramov sings “llusion”
12) – Iceland – Yohanna sings her beautiful ballad “Is It True?”
13) – F.Y.R. Macedonia – Next Time sing their upbeat tempo song “Neshto Shto Ke Ostane”
14) – Romania – Elena sings her Europop song “The Balkan Girls”
15) – Finland – Waldo’s People and their song “Lose Control”
16) – Portugal – Flor-De-Lis sings “Todas As Ruas Do Amor”
17) – Malta – Chiara sings “What If We”
18) – Bosnia & Herzegovina – Regina sings “Bistra Voda”

Out of all the songs performing in this semi final I would love to see Iceland sail through to the final on Saturday. It’s a lovely ballad, other acts to note is Chiara who is representing Malta for a 3rd time with “What If We”. Will it be 3rd time luck for the Maltese songstress to get to that important final on Saturday?

Join Paddy & Sara on BBC 3 tomorrow at 8pm for all the songs and results.
