Eurovision 2009 Split Jury/Televoting Results

As promised earlier in the week, this year’s Eurovision Song Contest split results have been published and they do make interesting read, to say the least.

According to the Eurovision.tv website, they had 2 auditors checking the final result which has now taken place and now they are in a position to publish the results.

As mentioned in earlier posts Norway won both the Televoting and Jury votes and therefore next year’s contest will be held in Oslo.

Here are the positions in which the combined votes have been placed.

It was announced earlier today that the split voting results from this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be announced this Friday 31st July.

What this means is we can see how the juries and televoters voted for each country.

Eurovision 2010

So as Noway won this year’s contest, the 2010 contest will be held in Oslo and preparation for the contest are already under way.  The venue for next year’s contest has been decided and will the Telenor Arena, which is south of the capital, will be used to host the annual event.

No presenters have yet been decided but the dates for the semi-finals and the final have been announce.

Semi-Final 1 will take place on Tuesday 25th May 2010
Semi-Final 2 will take place on Thursday 27th May 2010 and the
Final will be held on Saturday 29th May 2009.

18 countries have already confirmed that they wish to participate in the contest and they are:

Greece
Iceland
Israel
The Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Slovakia
Sweden
Switzerland
Ukraine
United Kingdom

2nd August 2009 – Denmark & Turkey have now also confirmed that they will participate in next year’s contest.

8th August 2009 – Armenia have now also confirmed that they will participate in next year’s contest.

According to the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) they are pulling out all the stops to try and convince Austria, Italy & Monaco to come back to the Eurovision Song Contest, but as of yet nothing has been confirmed whether they will or will not be returning.

Eurovision: Czech’s Pull Out

It was announced yesterday that the Czech Republic will withdraw from all future Eurovision Song Contests due to their poor results and a lack of interest from their audience in the contest.

They first entered the contest in 2007 with Kabat singing “Mala Dama” and finished last in the semi-final with only 1 point, which was awarded to them from Estonia.

In 2008 they were represented by Tereza Kerndlova with her Europop song “Have Some Fun”.  They participated in the 2nd semi-final and finished 18th with a total of 9 points, which were awarded to them from Turkey, Croatia, Malta and F.Y.R. Macedonia.

At this year’s event they were represented by Gipsy.cz and finished last in their semi-final, scoring the infamous “Nil Points” in the 2nd semi-final.

Next year’s contest will be held in the Norwegian capital Oslo after Alexander Rybak won this year’s contest with his folk song “Fairytale” with a record 387 points.

The Mercury Music Prize

Earlier today, the 12 hopefuls nominated for this years Mercury Music Prize were announced. La Roux, Kasabian and BRIT Award winners Florence & The Machine feature in the shortlist.

The awards ceremony takes place on September 8th where the winner will be announced and will take home the £20,000 prize.
