It has been reported on various news and entertainment sites that the male singer of the 70′s & 80′s Disco group Boney M, Bobby Farell has died.
The reason why I am putting this post on my site, is I am a BIG Boney M fan, and have been since I was 4 years old.
The singer and dancer of the world famous disco group was 61 years old.
Farrell, who lived in the Netherlands, was found dead in a hotel in St. Petersburg, where he had acted Wednesday. The cause of death is still unknown.
In 1976, Farrell and singer for the German group Boney M., which also consisted of three singers, prompted by producer Frank Farian. He was known for his bouncy dance style . The band scored hits like Sunny, Ma Baker, Rivers of Babylon and Hooray! Hooray! It’s a Holi-Holiday!
In 2003, producer Farian that Farrell really no vocal contributor to the pop group. Farian himself had sung the male vocals and he had just picked Farrell for his personality and innovative dancing.
He left the band in 1982 and returned in 1985. In 1986 was Boney M. apart for two years later to come together. Still, the curtain finally fell in 1989 to Boney M. Farell occurred since 1992 with his own group: Boney M. featuring Bobby Farrell. In 2006 he twice with De Toppers Toppers In Concert at the Amsterdam Arena.
Farrell began two years ago with a new world tour, but stayed in the Netherlands. He was married to a former Yugoslavian model. The couple had two children.
The band enjoyed moderate success here in the UK but wider recognition in Europe becoming the 1st western band to perform in Russia. They appear twice in the Top 100 best selling singles of all time, Mary’s Boy Child (Oh My Lord) is the 10th best seller ever, and Rivers Of Babylon/Brown Girl In The Ring being the 5th best seller.
