2009 MTV European Music Awards

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Well last night the 15th annual MTV European Music Awards went back home to the capital city where the 1st awards were held, Berlin. The show was hosted again this year by Katy Perry who had so many different costume changes than I’ve had hot dinners, and some of the clothes she wore were absolutely outrageous. Nuff Said about that.

There were performances from Leona Lewis, Tokio Hotel, Shakira, U2, Jay Z and there was even a rather peculiar tribute to the late Michael Jackson which was introduced by The Jonas Brothers.

The main winner of the show was Beyonce who took home 3 awards (more on that in a mo) but the evening didn’t go without its controvesy. And there was good news for the British acts with wins from Pixie Lott & Placebo

U2 had performed at the place where the Berlin Wall had come down to do a free concert for the event. The controvesy was that they only allowed 10,000 fans to take part in the event and they even erected up a metal fence so no unauthorised fans to “gate crash” the party. Now what’s so controversial about that you might ask, well this year is the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down and some bright spark decided to re-erect a fence up at the same place. Not the best PR decision that’s been made this year, and there were a few Germans who were not happy at the site.

So here is the list of who took home an award this year:

Best Video: Beyonce “Single Ladies”
Best Female: Beyonce
Best Group: Tokio Hotel
Best European Act: maNga
Best Push Artist: Pixie Lott
Best Male: Eminem
Best New Act: Lady Gaga
Best Alternative: Placebo
Best World Stage Performance: Linkin Park
Best Song: Beyonce “Halo”
Best Rock: Green Day
Best Urban: Jay Z
Best Live Act: U2
Best UK & Ireland Act: Pixie Lott
