Another one from Radio 1 but this time listeners were asked to vote for their favourite song of the 90’s. This chart was broadcast on 1st January 1996 with the late Kevin Greening and Jo Wiley taking the helm.
The only thing about this chart I don’t like is the fact that there are 4 years worth of music that couldn’t be included because when this chart was broadcast we’d only just got half way through the 90’s.
Same rules from the previous listeners chart applied but you could only vote for songs from 1990 – 1995 and it was only the top 90 songs voted for that would make the chart and get broadcasted.
The most popular choice of viewers is Pulp’s “Common People”. This song fended off competition from Oasis, Nirvana, Blur and R.E.M. to claim the feat of being the listener’s choice of the decade.
