The Top 100 Albums

On the 2nd May 1993 and following on from the 1992 viewers chart, BBC Radio 1 decided to allow the listeners to choose their favourite album of all time. Now there were some stipulations to this and the main one was that the album couldn’t be a Greatest Hits album. Also the album had to have entered the album chart, at some point after its release.

The show, again, was on for over 8 hours but there were only 2 presenters were this time. Mark Goodier and Clare Sturgess took the reins of this show in the morning and then took it in turns, hour after hour, to present a section of the run down. Culminating in both presenters announcing the Top 10 together.

When all 99 albums had been announced, and a track from the album had been played, they had the task of counting down the chart from 100 to number 2 and Mark announced that the number one album, as voted for by listeners was Simply Red’s “Stars” album.
