Music Monday ~ Manchester United Football Squad

Released in 1994 by the then Manchester United Football Squad, “Come On You Reds” is sampled on Status Quo’s “Burning Bridges”. It is the only song by a Premier League football club to reach number 1. Other famous football songs to reach the top spot include England/New Order “World In Motion” which featured players from the 1990 World Cup Squad, Badiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds “Three Lions” which was released initially in 1996 & has reached the Top 20 on 5 separate occasions in 5 different years & Ant & Dec “We’re On The Ball” which was the official England Football Squad’s song for the World Cup finals in 2002. Today’s choice pays homage to my favourite football club as their manager, Sir Alex Ferguson of 26 years retires today.

Music Monday ~ Joe McElderry

Released in 2010 & taken from the album “Wide Awake” and to the soundtrack to “The Chronicles of Narnia:They Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, Joe McElderry released “Someone Wake Me Up”. The 2009 X-Factor winner, who also won the second series of Popstar To Operastar, has released 7 singles to date. He also appeared on 2 charity singles, “You Are Not Alone” (part of the X-Factor finalists) & “Everybody Hurts” (part of Helping Haiti). Joe’s X-Factor winning single was famously kept from the top of the Christmas Number 1 spot in 2009, after an online campaign to purchase Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name” snatched the top spot. He did however reach number 1 the following week. Other songs released by Joe include “The Climb”, “Ambitions”, “Last Christmas” & “Abide With Me” which he sang with The Royal Mail Choir.
